Information on requirements and locations of US embassies and consulates is available at the Department of State website.

The non-refundable MRV application fee must be paid in the country of application, according to procedures established by each US embassy. Receipts for MRV fees paid to CIB Bank in Egypt are only valid at the US Embassy Cairo. CIB visa application fee receipts are valid for one year.

US Embassy Cairo plans to resume limited processing of immigrant visas (IV) for spouses and children of US citizens soon. They will contact applicants in these categories with previously scheduled interviews for rescheduling. Immigrant visa applicants who have not yet been interviewed by a consular officer may request another US Embassy to accept their immigrant visa case for processing. Any request must be sent directly to the Immigrant Visa Section of the relevant embassy. Information on which US embassies and consulates process immigrant visas is available at the US State Department website. Immigrant visa fees paid to the US Embassy Cairo or to the National Visa Center in the US are valid for visa processing at another US Embassy.

Diversity Visa (DV) 2011 applicants who had interviews scheduled at US Embassy Cairo from January 30 through March 31, 2011, will be contacted by the US Embassy Cairo Immigrant Visa Section to have their interviews rescheduled. Other DV 2011 applicants who expected to be interviewed in Cairo from April through September 2011 should monitor the US Department of State website for future information on rescheduling interviews.

The American Citizens Services Unit at US Embassy Cairo is currently open for emergency services to US citizens from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon each work day Sunday through Thursday. Security conditions permitting, the US Embassy Cairo anticipates returning to scheduled appointments for non-emergency services in the near future. US citizens should monitor the US Embassy Cairo website for updates. US citizens can send questions via e-mail.
